Started digging!

The excavator started digging the hole for the foundation this morning. Since I'm at work, I won't see what's going on until this evening. I'll post pics as soon as I take some, but just wanted to post about them starting.... :)

Here's some shots of the big hole....



The hole in the side of the wall is just so they could get a reference point for the existing floor.

We found out that the basement was originally a crawl space that was dug out. Not a big deal, but the wall between the old basement and the new basement has to be a little thicker. Also, the existing foyer foundation is just sitting on the ground, and not really buried. That explains the crack in the foundation wall.
